The Good Friday round robin tournament was blessed with fine weather and no wind – perfect tennis playing conditions. With 16 Club members playing, it was possible to divide the 8 pairs into two pools of four with each player keeping the same partner throughout the day. Though with fewer female than male players, some men needed to be ‘women’ for the day to keep a mixed format!
At the end of the round robin stage, the players with the most points progressed to the semi final. In one of these Martin Kearns & Matt Cross played Danny Welbourne & Kathy Byra and in the other Fang Liu & Chris Bowe played Paddy Maher & Steve Garland. After some excellent games, and a close result, Paddy & Steve progressed to the final where they took on Martin & Matt who had an easier victory in their semi.
After a BBQ sorted out by Sandra Eccles and the drawing of raffle prizes, the final was a very enjoyable match with some great rallies. The winners, with some really good shots, were Martin and Matt . WELL DONE TO THEM!
