An enthusiastic group of 9 Club players joined in the tournament on Good Friday. With a smaller than usual number of players we didn’t have the standard round robin format but used the winter doubles arrangement where everyone plays with everyone else in the group. After three rounds of play and semi-finals, a final was played between Rod Kay & Harry Waddington against Martin Kearns & Derek Metcalfe. After very entertaining rallies Martin and Derek emerged the winners, 6-3. And thanks to Sam Lockwood for umpiring.
The indifferent and uncertain weather was probably a factor in keeping the numbers down, but everyone enjoyed the tennis and the many chocolate prizes in the raffle.
And thanks a lot to Sandra Eccles for looking after the popular BBQ and to Susan Lucas for organising the event for the last time.
