Successful Men’s Singles tournament

The weather forecast for the round robin stage of the Men’s Singles tournament on Sunday 4th September was not at all promising, but in the event it turned out to be cloudy but dry and in the afternoon the sun even came out.

There were two Pools, each with 6 players, and they all played 6 games against the other five members of the group so a total of 30 games.    It was good to welcome some new members to Pool A in the morning – James Sheppard and James Stone – alongside regulars Dave Robinson and Bernd Schulze (champion for the last two years) and juniors Jonny Eastham and Matej Stuchlik.

After some close matches and great rallies, Bernd was the clear winner of the Pool with new recruit James Sheppard just pipping Californian Dave to the runners up spot.  Well done to them.

In the afternoon Pool B there were also newer members – Sam Allan, Seb Holland and Mustafa Haider – alongside well established members Matt Cross (a former winner), David Kay and Danny Welbourne.  After good tennis to watch and some excellent rallies, Matt was the outright winner and Mustafa was clearly in the runner up spot.  Again well done to them.

So the semi finals will be held between Bernd and Mustafa as well as Matt against James.

Matt and James plan their match at 10am on Thursday September 8th : as soon as the date and time of the other semi is known, it will be published.
