It was a good decision to postpone our summer round robin from the end of July to Sunday August 2nd, which was a perfect day for tennis – quite sunny and no wind!
There were 4 Mixed doubles pairs, so it worked very well for each pair to play the other 3 couples in the usual format with quick deuces. After the round robin stage the leading men were Jonny Eastham and Rod Kay – and the leading women were Fang Liu and Sandra Eccles. So they played in the final after some really enjoyable games.
After a good set with excellent rallies, the final result was 6-3 to Rod and Fang. So they were the champions and had first choice of the prizes!
The event also gave an opportunity to present Certificates prepared by Lancaster District CVS to recognise the really important contribution that volunteers make in the local community – in our case the running of our Club. These volunteers do a great deal of work behind the scenes and really deserve the Certificates – Dave Clark, Malcolm Dow, Sandra Eccles, Rod Kay and Susan Lucas for Tennis. And there will be a presentation for their hard work in setting up and developing Pickleball to Sharon Phillips and Diane Riach later in the week.
